It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there, and lean into courage. The world is desperate for braver leaders. It’s time for all of us to step up.Dr. Brené Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston and four-time New York Times best-selling author, spent years researching leadership and organizational cultures.Brené wrote in her 2018 book Dare to Lead™, “There was one answer across the interviews: We need braver leaders and more courageous cultures.”Dare to Lead™ includes facilitation, self-reflection, practical activities, and short videos hosted by Brené on the four teachable, observable, and measurable courage skill sets:• Rumbling with Vulnerability• Living into our Values• Braving Trust• Learning to RiseDaring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, build trust, lead with empathy and connection, take smart risks that lead to innovation, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – especially when it’s tough. The curriculum addresses key challenges our research suggests that companies are grappling with:We avoid tough conversations, including giving honest, productive feedback.Rather than spending a reasonable amount of time proactively acknowledging and addressing the fears and feelings that show up during change and upheaval, we spend an unreasonable amount of time managing problematic behaviours.Diminishing trust caused by a lack of connection and empathy. Not enough people are taking smart risks or creating and sharing bold ideasto meet changing demands and the insatiable need for innovation. We get stuck and defined by setbacks, disappointments, and failures, so instead of spending resources on clean-up to ensure that consumers, stakeholders, or internal processes are made whole, we are spending too much time and energy reassuring team members who are questioning their contribution and value.Too much shame and blame, not enough accountability and learning.People are opting out of vital conversations about diversity and inclusivity because they fear looking wrong, saying something wrong, or being wrong. Choosing our own comfort over hard conversations is the epitome of privilege, and it corrodes trust and moves us away from meaningful and lasting change. When something goes wrong, individuals and teams are rushing into ineffective or unsustainable solutions rather than staying with problem identification and solving. When we fix the wrong thing for the wrong reason, the same problems continue to surface. It’s costly and demoralizing.Organisational values are gauzy and assessed in terms of aspirations rather than actual behaviours that can be taught, measured, and evaluated.Perfectionism and fear are keeping people from learning and growing. The common thread? How we deal with fear. We will teach the skills required to tackle these issues by becoming braver leaders.Talk to me about group pricing or a workplace based event.About Dare to Lead™ and Brené Brown:Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-building program designed to be facilitated by organizational development professionals.Brené is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership. She is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Braving the Wilderness, and Dare to Lead, which also debuted at #1 on The Wall Street Journal and Publisher’s Weekly list. The most significant finding from Brené’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators focus on developing these courage-building skills through workshops, trainings and coaching to help individuals, teams and organizations move from armored leadership to daring leadership.Certified facilitators are authorized to issue Dare to Lead™ Trained certificates to individuals who successfully complete the full 24-hour training. In addition to receiving a certificate of completion, these individuals are allowed to put a Dare to Lead™ Trained badge on their LinkedIn account.

"description": " Alana Peters, Leadership and Executive Coach has spent over twenty five years equipping and inspiring tranformation. Alana has done extensive work in non-profit organizations, business and education.  We are lit up by the prospect of helping individuals find their authentic leadership presence, and our unique approach is what allows us to do this differently than the rest. We do this work to develop what makes an individual powerful in their own way so that they can connect courageously, compassionately and authentically with the world around them.In our society we are encouraged to mimic others, especially successful ones. We believe that this is what creates mediocrity, because no one can succeed at being someone else. We know that when clients come to us, they are seeking transformation- a way out of the box they’ve been taught to accept. We don’t subscribe to the notion that one must be corporate and cold to “make it” in their career, and instead we approach our process with curiosity and a touch of whimsy to break our clients out of their mold and into adventure so that we can discover the beauty that’s within. This is what creates a sustainable leadership journey. Alana is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. As a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, Alana is qualified to deliver the cutting edge, research based material created by Dr. Brené Brown. She is a graduate of the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Arts in English/ History and a Bachelor of Education.  She also graduated from Royal Roads University with her Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching.
